Land of Scarcity to the Land of Plenty

I am constantly working to change my mindset, from one of scarcity to one of plenty.

The scarcity mindset is zero-sum.  When I give to you, it means more for you but less for me.  The plenty mindset is win-win.  Giving to you means more for both you and me.

Huh?  If I give away $100, doesn't that mean I have $100 less dollars.

Yes, that is true.  I have $100 less in my pocket at that very moment.  But think of it as an investment.

I enjoy cooking at home, and sometimes will not have a called for ingredient.  I feel no shame in walking next door and asking my neighbor if they can give me some chili powder or a couple of eggs.  Would I be able to do this if, whenever someone asked me for something, I would slam the door in their face?  Of course not!  But since I have given in the past, I can ask without hesitation for that which I need.

Similarly, when I give out of my pay without hesitation, without regret and without doubt that this is the right thing to do, I am more apt to expect that others will do likewise.  Any salesman will tell you that one of the most important element to their success is confidence.

Matthew 7:7: ""Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you."
